PHOTO TIPS 

.The ideal photo should show the whole head and shoulders in perfect profile.

. If possible, send four pictures: 2 facing right (one serious and one smiling) and 2 facing left (one serious and one smiling).

. For two or more subjects together for a group silhouette, also include one picture with all subjects standing next to each other for relative sizing of silhouettes.

. Preferably, take pictures without flash.

. If flash is used, the subject should be a few feet away from the background to lessen the effects of the flash. 

. Avoid bulky clothing around neck.

. Comb hair.  Braids and ponytails are O.K., but avoid piggy tails.

. Place subject in front of plain background contrasting the skin and hair color (e.g. dark complexion/hair against white wall, or light complexion/hair against dark color wall).

. Subject's face and body parallel to camera. 

MISTAKES TO AVOID:

Fair complexion against light color background
Face slightly turned towards the wall
Hair uncombed

Busy background and out-of-focus

Flash shadow and bulky clothing
